Cowgirls Season Ends In ASC Championship Tournament

RICHARDSON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team saw its season come to an end with a 25-17, 20-25, 25-14, 25-22 loss to LeTourneau on Thursday night in the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament in Richardson. 

With the first set tied at 10, LeTourneau used a 7-1 run to open a 17-11 lead and held off the Cowgirls to take the early advantage. The Cowgirls came right back and evened the match with a strong late push. HSU used an 8-1 run to take a 24-16 advantage.

LeTourneau jumped to a 12-2 lead in the third game and cruised to take a 2-1 lead in the match. In the final game, LeTourneau again used an early push to take a 15-7 lead. The Cowgirls had one last push in them and they eventually cut it to 20-19, but four straight from LeTourneau made it 24-19. HSU answered with three straight points but the Yellowjackets were able to finish it off.

Freshman Triniti Anderson led the Cowgirls with a season-high 19 kills on the night. Kailey Currington added 11 kills. Mary Johnson led the defense with 22 digs and Hannah Huckabee added 11 digs.

Ashley Pierce finished her career with a double-double with 36 assists and 12 digs.

Kianna Crow led LeTourneau with 16 kills and Cam Taylor added 21 digs.

HSU ends its season with a record of 12-13. It was the final game of the outstanding careers of Pierce, Johnson, Sarah Bennett, Kyrah Bailey and Kaytlynn Lewis. LeTourneau continues its season
