Cowgirls Fall At UMHB

BELTON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team saw its seven-match winning streak come to an end with a 25-20, 25-18, 25-27, 25-11 loss at American Southwest Conference leader Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday night.

The Cru pulled away late in the first set, with a 6-2 run to close the set after it was 19-18. It was the same in the second set when UMHB led 16-15 but used a 7-1 run to take control.

It was the Cowgirls turn to take a late run in the third game. UMHB led 23-16 but the Cowgirls scored seven straight points to tie the set and then eventually won 27-25. In the final game UMHB won 12 of the last 14 points to secure the win.

Triniti Anderson led the attack with 17 kills and Hannah Langerman (11) and Sarah Bennett (10) each reached double figures in kills.

Mary Johnson had 29 digs to pace the defense and Chloe Calhoun-Rivera and Hannah Huckabee had 11 and 10 digs respectively. Ashley Pierce had 43 assists in the match.

The Cowgirls are now 11-9 overall and 8-5 in league play. UMHB improved to 19-7 and 12-1 in ASC action. HSU will play at Concordia at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
