Cowgirls Sweep Howard Payne On Senior Day

ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team swept Howard Payne 25-12, 25-15, 25-21 in American Southwest Conference action on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at the Mabee Complex.

The Cowgirls came out strong in all three games and dominated the match from start to finish. HSU hit .223 in the match and limited the Yellow Jackets to a -.037 hitting percentage. HSU also had seven team blocks in the match.

Kailey Currington and Kaytlynn Lewis led the balanced HSU attack with eight kills each. Currington hit .583 for the match. Mary Johnson had 13 digs and Sarah Bennett and Lewis were in on four blocks each. Ashley Pierce led the Cowgirls with 26 assists.

HSU honored its five seniors before the game – Bennett, Lewis, Pierce, Johnson and Kyrah Bailey. It was their last home Saturday match of their careers.

The Cowgirls are now 6-8 on the year and 3-4 in conference play. Howard Payne fell to 2-16 overall and 0-8 in ASC action. HSU will host crosstown rival McMurry on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
