RICHARDSON, Texas – In a battle of American Southwest Conference Division leaders, UT-Dallas beat Hardin-Simmons 74-56 on Thursday night at the UTD Activities Center.
Jesyka Lee gave the Cowgirls an early 3-2 lead, but the Comets scored the next seven points and never trailed the rest of the way. UTD led 24-14 after the first period and it was 38-25 at halftime.
The Cowgirls made a push at the Comets in the third quarter and Parris Parmer's jumper in the paint cut the deficit to 43-40 with 2:40 remaining in the quarter. However, UTD closed the period with an 8-2 run to push the lead back to 51-42 after three quarters.
UTD was able to extend the lead in the fourth quarter. UTD outscored the Cowgirls 34-24 in the paint in the game and turned 23 HSU turnovers into 24 points.
Raenett Hughes had 25 points and Victoria Pena added 19 for the Comets.
HSU is now 18-6 on the year and 12-3 in American Southwest Conference play. UT-Dallas improved to 20-4 overall and 14-1 in league play. The Cowgirls will close the regular season at Ozarks on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Cowgirls also dropped into second place in the ASC West and will come back to Richardson next weekend. HSU will play the 5 p.m. game on Thursday.
