ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team completed its home slate with a perfect 13-0 record with a 92-66 win over Belhaven on Saturday afternoon at the Mabee Complex on Senior Day.
The Cowgirls honored their lone senior Taylor Gaffney before the game and she came out hot as she scored off the opening tip on a lay-up and HSU never trailed. She finished the game with 18 points and five assists.
HSU hit 12 3-pointers and held the Blazers to 31.9 percent shooting in the contest.
The Cowgirls opened the game scoring the first 11 points. HSU led 18-8 after the first quarter and exploded for 34 points in the second period for a 52-22 halftime lead.
HSU was able to get plenty of playing time for its bench in the second half and then Gaffney went back in midway through the fourth quarter for a final curtain call. She did it in her dramatic style as she buried a 3-pointer in the corner before coming out to a standing ovation.
Mariah Collins led the Blazers with 12 points in the contest.
HSU is now 17-4 overall and 11-1 in the American Southwest Conference. HSU will close the regular season with four straight games on the road, starting Thursday night in Brownwood against Howard Payne. Belhaven fell to 13-8 overall and 6-6 in ASC play.
