Cowgirls Hold Off Tornados in Austin

AUSTIN, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team held off a furious second-half rally to beat Concordia 62-55 on Saturday afternoon in American Southwest Conference at the Concordia Fieldhouse in Austin.

HSU seemed to take control of the game in the first quarter jumping out to a 24-4 lead. The Cowgirls held Concordia to 1-of-12 shooting in the period. HSU pushed the lead out to 38-12 with 2:35 to play in the first half.

Concordia closed the first half on a 5-0 run to make it 38-17 at halftime and in the third quarter they scored the first 14 points to push the run out to 19-0. The Cowgirls led 45-37 heading to the fourth quarter.

HSU closed out the game with a 12-of-16 performance down the stretch at the free throw line to keep the Tornados at a distance.

Keilee Burke tied her career high with 17 points and she added 14 rebounds and four blocks. Taylor Gaffney had 12 points and Brittany Schnabel scored 11 points.

Payton Berger scored 13 points, Kennedy Donovan had 11 points and Havyn Perez scored 10.

HSU is now 12-4 overall and 6-1 in ASC play. Concordia fell to 6-10 overall and 3-4 in league play. The Cowgirls return to action on Thursday at McMurry.
