WHITTIER, Calif. – Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team dropped its second straight game with an 81-73 loss to Chapman on Monday night in the Whittier Purple and Gold Poet Classic in Whittier, Calif.
The teams battled back and forth in the first half and JonNa' McDonald's 3-pointer with :21 left in the half gave the Cowgirls a 37-35 halftime lead.
Chapman took a 56-54 lead into the final quarter. Chapman hit a quick 6-0 run to take a 72-63 lead with 3:06 to play and it was enough to hold off the Cowgirls.
The Panthers had a big advantage on the inside as they outrebounded the Cowgirls 45-26. They also had a big advantage at the foul line as they hit 21-of-30 free throws and the Cowgirls went just 5-of-7 from the charity stripe.
Karlea Ritchie led the Cowgirls with 20 points and 10 rebounds. She hit 5-of-7 from 3-point range. Parris Parmer had 12 points, eight assists and six rebounds. McDonald and Triniti Anderson added 11 points each off the bench.
Julianna Campas and Julia Strand each had 25 points for Chapman. Strand added 11 rebounds for a double-double.
HSU is now 7-3 on the year and Chapman improved to 6-4. HSU is now off until a home exhibition against Wayland Baptist on Dec. 28.
