
ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team moved to 6-1 on the season with an 87-33 win over Centenary on Saturday afternoon at the Mabee Complex.
The Cowgirls forced 33 turnovers and turned those into a 33-2 advantage in points off turnovers. HSU had just six turnovers in the game.
HSU outscored Centenary 32-12 in the first half and then scored 27 and 28 points respectively in the third and fourth quarters with the bench receiving the majority of those second-half minutes. HSU's bench outscored Centenary 43-13.
HSU overcame a cold-shooting start and heated up in the second half shooting 56 percent. HSU limited Centenary to 11-of-43 shooting. The Cowgirls also had a huge advantage in the paint, outscoring the Ladies 52-18 in the paint.
All 15 Cowgirls who dressed in the game scored and all but one had a rebound.
Karlea Ritchie led the balanced attack with 16 points and she added seven rebounds. Taylor Gaffney had 10 points and a team-best six assists and Keilee Burke had eight points and eight rebounds.
Bre Frierson led the Ladies with eight points.
HSU is now 6-1 on the season and will return to action next Saturday when it hosts McMurry at 1 p.m. in the American Southwest Conference opener.
