Cowgirls Complete Weekend Road Sweep

SEGUIN, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team moved to 5-1 on the season with a 75-53 win over Texas Lutheran on Saturday evening in Seguin.

After the Bulldogs scored the first basket of the game, the Cowgirls rolled off 12 straight points and never trailed the rest of the way. TLU did cut the deficit to 15-11 after the first period.

HSU pushed the lead out to 29-20 with 2:01 remaining in the first half, but TLU closed the deficit to 29-27 by scoring the final seven points of the half.

The Cowgirls came out strong in the third quarter and turned up the pressure defense that led to several easy transition baskets. HSU used a 25-4 run to push the lead out to 54-33. Leading scorer Taylor Gaffney, who was held to just one basket in the first half, erupted for 12 points and four assists in the run. Overall, HSU outscored the Bulldogs 29-9 in the quarter to take control of the game and finished it off in the fourth quarter.

Gaffney led the Cowgirls with 16 points and six assists. Freshman Parris Parmer had 13 points and nine rebounds to set new career highs in both categories. Miranda Goswick had a career-best nine points as well.

Tara Molina led TLU with 12 points.   

The Cowgirls are now 5-1 on the year and will return to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Mabee Complex in Abilene against Centenary. TLU fell to 0-5 on the year.
