ALPINE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team fell 75-65 to first-place Sul Ross State on Saturday afternoon in American Southwest Conference action in Alpine.
The Cowboys had a good first half and led by as many as nine points before settling for a 39-31 halftime lead.
Chase Cobb gave the Cowboy their biggest lead of the game when his 3-pointer with 11:54 to play made it 55-45. The Lobos responded with a 21-4 run over the next 7:32 to take a 66-59 lead with 4:21 remaining and the Lobos closed out the game down the stretch.
Cobb scored a career-best 16 points and Chris Barrett had 14 points, seven assists and six rebounds and Neal Chambliss added 14 points. Trey Wooldridge was the fourth Cowboy in double figures with 10 points.
Logan Dixon paced four Lobos in double figures with 22 points and added 10 rebounds. B.J. Hollis had 20 points for the Lobos.
The Cowboys are now 10-13 overall and 6-8 in ASC play. Sul Ross State improved to 15-8 overall and 11-2 in ASC action. HSU closes the regular season next weekend at UT-Dallas and Ozarks. HSU clinched a spot in the ASC Tournament with McMurry's loss to Howard Payne.
