ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team continued its run of games going down to the wire but fell 67-64 to American Southwest Conference West Division leader Sul Ross State on Thursday night at the Mabee Complex.

Chris Henderson, who had been on a season-long shooting slump, broke out in a big way hitting four first-half 3-pointers and he made six from behind the arc on the night. The Lobos opened up a 29-20 lead in the first half, its biggest lead of the night. HSU trailed 37-32 at halftime.

The Cowboys went on a 12-0 run in the first 7:03 of the half to take a 44-37 lead. The Lobos retook the lead on a Triston Licon 3-pointer with 9:26 to play. It was the third of three straight triples for the Lobos. Henderson answered with a 3-pointer of his own to give the Cowboys the lead back.

HSU led 61-56 when Jezreel Griffin hit a 3-pointer to cut it to 61-59 with 2:07 to play. Keenan Holdman split a pair of free throws for HSU before Griffin made a layup to cut it to 62-51 and then Licon stole the inbounds pass and hit a short jumper to give the Lobos the lead with 1:27 to play.

Neal Chambliss gave the Cowboys the lead back with a jumper with 1:01 to play. Griffin hit a pair of free throws with :35 to play and Chambliss missed a short jumper. The Cowboys fouled B.J. Hollis and he hit both free throws with :25 left. The Cowboys ran a set that got Henderson a good look from 3-point range but the ball rattled out.

The Lobos missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with :05 to play but Holdman's desperation 3-pointer was off the mark.

Henderson had 19 points and Chambliss added 12 for HSU. Licon and Griffin had 18 points each for Sul Ross State.
