ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team fell 94-84 to the East Texas Baptist Tigers in American Southwest Conference play on Thursday night at the Mabee Athletic Complex.
The Cowboys trailed by six points with under a minute left and were forced to foul, eventually closing the deficit to four. Chris Barrett drilled a three-pointer with 10 seconds left in the game to make it 75-74 Tigers.
After an ETBU free throw, the Cowboys were down 76-74 and Kyle Brennon drove in for a tough bucket to tie the game 76-76 with one second left. The game would go into overtime, but the Cowboys were unable to match Tigers and lost by a final of 94-84.
Brennon led the Cowboys with 34 points shooting 12-24 and making four threes. Steven Quinn had a double-double leading the team with 12 rebounds and scoring 10. Nathan Fontenot and Chris Haynes both had 20 points for the Tigers and Robby Dooley led ETBU with 10 rebounds.
The Cowboys drop to 4-7 and 0-2 in the ASC while the ETBU Tigers move to 8-2 and 1-0 in the conference. HSU basketball returns to action against LeTourneau on Saturday at the Mabee Complex in Abilene with a doubleheader starting with the women at 1 p.m.
