MARSHALL, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team fell 80-63 at East Texas Baptist on Saturday afternoon in Marshall.
ETBU jumped out to a 17-8 lead in the early going, before an eruption by freshman Layton Sharp. He scored 16 straight points in a 3:02 span, that included four 3-pointers. It gave the Cowboys a 24-20 lead. The teams battled back and forth the rest of the half and two free throws with :01 to play in the half gave the Tigers a 36-35 lead.
The game was won in the opening minutes of the second half when the Tigers went on a 14-2 run out of the locker room. HSU was never within double digits the rest of the way.
Robby Dooley led the Tigers with 20 points, Westin Riddick added 17 and Chris Haynes had 16 points.
The Cowboys have lost four straight games to close the semester and are now 4-6 on the year. ETBU improved to 6-1 on the year. This game was a non-conference game. HSU will take the next two weeks off before playing Wayland Baptist at home on Dec. 28 in an exhibition contest.
