SEGUIN, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team couldn't hold a late lead on the road and fell 65-62 to Texas Lutheran on Saturday afternoon in Seguin.
HSU overcame a tough shooting first half by forcing 14 turnovers in the first half and the Cowboys led 31-28 at halftime. HSU scored the first six points of the second half to take a 37-28 lead.
For most of the second half every time that Texas Lutheran would inch closer Steven Quinn had an answer for the Cowboys.
HSU led 58-49 with 5:09 to play before the Bulldogs made the closing push. Sebastian Andrade hit a pair of free throws with 1:14 to play bring the Bulldogs to within 60-59.
After having the 58-49 lead, HSU closed the game by going 1-for-9 from the floor. TLU was 8-for-8 at the free throw line in the final 1:14 to seal the comeback.
Quinn led the way for the Cowboys with a season-high 24 points. Kyle Brennon had 12 points for the Cowboys.
Kite had 19 points to pace TLU and Andrade added 16 and Caleb Lister scored 14.
Both teams are now 3-2 on the year and split the season series with both games coming down to the final seconds. The Cowboys will return to action on Saturday when they host Centenary at the Mabee Complex.
