Cowboys Fall To TLU, 11-10

ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' baseball team dropped another tight game, falling 11-10 to Texas Lutheran in the home opener on Friday night at Hunter Field.

TLU scored a run on an error in the second inning and made it 4-0 with three runs in third including a two-run double by Tyler Post and an RBI single by Austin Colon.

HSU chipped away with three runs in the third, a two-run single by Tyler Bradshaw and an RBI single by Brett Hudspeth. TLU received a Joe Jimenez home run to lead off the fourth but HSU answered with three runs in the fourth to take a 6-5 lead. Hunter Garrison had an RBI single, Cade Johnson an RBI groundout and John Paul Tople an RBI single.

TLU answered with a two-run home run by Post and an RBI double by Jimenez to jump back ahead 8-6. HSU. Jacob Rains had an RBI single in the fifth. Tyler Cauley made it 10 7 with a two-run double in the seventh.

HSU scored three times in the seventh to tie the game. Bradshaw had a towering home run to center field, Hudspeth tripled and Rains knocked him in and Rains scored on a Garrison squeeze bunt.

The Bulldogs scored in the eighths when Alex Comman tripled to lead off the inning and Jimenez brought him home. HSU but the first two men on in the eighth and ninth innings with nobody out and neither time could get the tying run home.

John Clift started for the Cowboys and allowed seven hits and six runs in four innings of work. J.T. Barnes worked two innings and allowed four runs on three hits and six walks. Taylor McMackin, Orel Rhodes and Hayden Day worked the final three innings. Rhodes took the loss allowing a leadoff triple that came around to score.

Matthew Hickey started for TLU and he allowed six runs in three and two-third innings. Nolan Temmpas struck out seven over two and two-third innings of relief but allowed seven hits and four runs. J.T. Taylor won the game in relief and Zach Perry recorded the save.

Johnson, Garrison and Hudspeth had three hits each to pace the Cowboys' 17-hit attack. Cauley, Post and Jimenez had three hits each for TLU.

The teams will play a noon doubleheader on Saturday.
