ABILENE, Texas – George Fox scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning to down Hardin-Simmons 5-1 in the baseball season opener on Friday at AirHogs Stadium in Grand Prairie.
The Cowboys received a great start from John Clift as the junior righthander did not allow a hit through five innings and he allowed a run in the sixth inning to leave with the game tied at 1-1. He allowed just two hits and one run and struck out one.
HSU scored a run on an RBI single by John Paul Tople, it was the only run of the game for the Cowboys. Matt Ramirez had an RBI single for the Bruins in the sixth to tie the game.
GFU scored four times in the top of the ninth the big blow a bases-loaded triple by Emery Miller. Jared Gee followed with an RBI single.
JT Barnes took the loss for the Cowboys, allowing four runs on seven hits. Four different Cowboys had one hit in the game.
Isaac Olson won the game in relief for the Bruins, working two scoreless innings in relief of Landon Schirer the Bruin starter. He went six innings allowing four hits, one run and walked three and struck out four. Sean Wiese worked a scoreless ninth. Miller had three hits to pace the Bruins.
The Cowboys will play Methodist University on Saturday at 11 a.m.
